Perfect Summer Wine

Written by: Shana Troy Montréal - August 15, 2018

Chateau St. Jean’s Chardonnay is the perfect summer wine for entertaining, and I entertain a lot during this time of year! And because having people over is something that happens quite frequently, I make sure to always have a chilled bottle of wine on hand or rather, a few bottles for all to enjoy.

Summer in Montreal is pretty fabulous. Whether you’re in Old Montreal on a rooftop terrace or at the chalet sitting by the water, our long days and warm summer nights are epic. Now add some family and friends to the mix (plus a chilled bottle of wine!), and you have summer moment perfection. Repeat until fall.

Wonderfully bright and crisp, this classic Californian chardonnay has flavours of apple, pear, and pineapple, with hints of lemon and lime zest. I love its creamy mouth-filling texture and lasting taste. I love a great, full-bodied chardonnay with just the right amount of oakiness!

A fun fact about this particular wine is that it’s made by winemaker Margo Van Straaveren. That’s right, she’s female and oh so talented! Margo has been with the Chateau St. Jean house since 1980. She started as a Laboratory Technician and worked her way up to become the Winemaker and General Manager for Chateau St. Jean by 2003. In 2008, she was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast magazine. Way to go, girl!

One of my favourite dishes to pair with this Chardonnay is fish tacos. They’re perfect for the hot summer months and are always a crowd pleaser. Start with corn tortillas and then add on my faves: salmon, a lemony cabbage slaw, sweet and juicy mango cubes, buttery avocado, a creamy and salty yoghurt dip, fresh cilantro, and a few splashes of hot sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about the burst of flavours and sipping this crisp Chardonnay… pure heaven! If you want to know all about my fish taco recipe, click here!

I find that good food and good wine bring people together, and I’m pleased to hear that my loved ones enjoy my fish tacos paired with Chateau St. Jean chardonnay as much as I do.

Celebrate the present moment, every chance you get. Make it special and unforgettable. I’ll be celebrating with the wine that I love and will be creating memorable moments all summer long. As I always say, “the more the merrier,” so come on over! You know what you’ll be drinking.

Fun fact #1: Chateau St. Jean is pronounced JEAN in English… and not in French! Like a pair of jeans!

Fun fact #2 : download the Living Wine Labels app to see Margo the real wine producer talk to you about this refreshing summer wine.

Cheers!
