Marie Mai’s Makeup Secrets for her EMPIRE Video

Written by: Sophie Parrot Montréal - August 27, 2018

When discussing the project with Marie Mai, Patrick (stylist), and David (hairdresser), it was clear that we wanted something powerful, but very pure at the same time. An image of Marie Mai looking strong, luminous, and radiant. I therefore wanted to keep her makeup minimal to let her natural beauty shine through. The challenge was to structure her face and add a super glossy effect.

Below is a list of the products used if you want to recreate this look maybe build an empire.

EYES

The first step is to apply MAC’s BARE STUDY cream on the entire eyelid with your finger to help your makeup last longer. Still with your finger, lightly press an illuminating powder in the middle of the eyelid to open up the eyes. Using the MAC 217 crease brush, structure the look with a touch of shadow in the outer corner of the eyes (my favourite OMEGA shadow from MAC works for skins with a light to medium complexion).

Using a very small brush, apply a tiny bit of liquid light to the inner corner of the eye (MAKEUP FOREVER’s Ultra HD Liquid Highlighter #20 lasts all day). Then, use the MAC COFFEE pencil on the lashline to discreetly define the eyes. The final touch is using KISS LASHES in 03 and a good dose of MAC’s EXTENDED PLAY mascara (or IT COSMETICS’ SUPERHERO MASCARA for more intensity).

Don’t forget to define the eyebrows (on Marie Mai, I used the OMEGA eyeshadow followed by a transparent brow gel, all by MAC).

FACE

It’s essential for the skin to be well hydrated, especially to achieve a luminous, glowy look. I recommend using SEPHORA’s GEL MASK, and letting it act as a moisturizer by not rinsing it off. Then, apply MAC’s FACE AND BODY foundation (preferably with a brush) followed by the YSL TOUCHE ECLAT concealer. Using your finger, press MAC’s HUSH cream colour base on the cheekbones, going up to the temples. Follow that up with MAC’s EXTRA DIMENSION SKINFINISH illuminating powder (different colours were used during the shoot). To finish, slightly sculpt the face. I really like the MARC JACOBS 40 MIRAGE FILTER contour duo that I applied to the hollows of the cheeks.

LIPS

Moisturize with BITE’s LIP MASK, and follow that up with MAC’s OAK pencil and a neutral gloss. For Marie Mai, I applied two glosses I love: NYX’s butter gloss in the shade MADELAINE and MARC JACOBS’ in PINK FLAMINGO.

Have fun !!!
