Books to Read While Traveling

Written by: Jade Milette Montréal - June 8, 2018

I love taking the time to read while traveling, especially books about personal growth. I really think it’s the best way to unwind and realign my chakras. However, I don’t have enough space to carry three more bricks in my backpack and I’m not a fan of e-readers. I like being able to feel, hold, highlight, and annotate my books. Below, I share with you my top five easy-to-read and easy-to-pack books that are good for the soul.

  1. The Why Cafe and Return to the Why Cafe by John P. Strelecky

If you know me even a little bit, I’ve probably suggested these books to you. I think everyone should read them at least once in their life. I say at least once, because I myself have read them many times. These books will make you wonder: Why am I here? Do I fear death? Am I truly fulfilled? You gather all this by following the main character John through his various trips and meetings.

  1. The Toltec Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

I seriously read this book in five hours. It explains simple, true, and effective life principles that should be applied daily. The first one is to be impeccable with your word, the second is to not take anything personally, the third, to not make assumptions, and the last one is to always do your best. It doesn’t take much effort to apply these four commandments, but it’s these simple little things that can make a big difference in your life and way of being. I swear, after you read this book, you’ll want to write these four commandments on your walls.

  1. La liste by Jérémy Demay

This book is a list of 30 points that have helped the author live a more fulfilling life and follow his dreams, and that can, in fact, help everyone in the same way. What I like about it is that the chapters are short, easily readable, and end with a key sentence that summarizes everything nicely you’ll want to write it on a post-it and stick it on your fridge!

  1. The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield

For me, this is the kind of book that you open then close often. Let me explain. As much as I wanted to devour it because the story is one of intrigue and I always wanted to know what happened next, I had to take breaks to gather my thoughts and try to understand the concepts presented. The book reminds you that everything happens for a reason, to listen to all of life’s little signs and above all, to live in the present. Once again, the story transports you since it takes place in Peru. Who knows, maybe at the end of the book, you’ll add this destination to your travel list!

  1. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

Literally my Bible. What I like most about this book is that the author gets straight to the point. Reading it is like having a pep talk with your best friend. He shares life lessons through his own stories and even turns situations to ridicule where you can recognize and laugh at yourself. It’s a book full of wisdom that’ll help you let things go.

Happy reading and have a good trip! I also want to know: what are your to-go books that you read all the time?
